On the way from Ibiza City to Santa Gertrudis, I had seen the restaurant many times on the left side of the highway (PM 804) and diagonally across from Sluiz: Can Caus. A large white and blue building, with a lush garden and a huge parking lot where many cars are always parked around siesta time.

I was craving a small snack, but when I saw the menu in 4 languages, it occurred to me that I would have been better off having something less heavy for breakfast. The menu consists mainly of many meat dishes starting at 9.00 euros and ending at 24.50 euros with the only exception being the Ox Rib Steak. This one costs 48.00 euros, but for that money a one-and-a-half-pound piece of raw meat is grilled at your table.

Should vitamins not be missing from your lunch, order plenty of vegetables as a side order, because if you order meat, then you really only get a plate of meat.

The neatly dressed in black staff was very helpful in explaining the menu dishes and specialties of the day. I chose 4 kinds of homemade sausage from the charcoal oven (brasa) and Sanfaina (grilled vegetables such as eggplant, bell bell pepper, zucchini but also whole garlic cloves). Everything tasted fine, but I was thirsty all day from the salt in the sausages.

Juan Luis, the proud owner of Can Caus, told me that he had started the restaurant in 1987. They use super fresh produce from the island, have a farm with poultry and goats, and they make their own cheeses and sausages. All other products such as vegetables, meat and nuts come from surrounding fincas in the area. I was allowed to go on my own to take pictures on the farm and he gave me an interesting tour of the small factory behind the restaurant.

Can Caus, a classic -tad corny- family restaurant, much frequented by locals and perfect for groups who love a great piece of grilled meat. Vegetarians stay away, then!
