The mystic rock everyone is talking about
You must have heard of it. Or you have already seen it. The rock Es Vedra, on the west side of the island.
Es Vedra Ibiza
The magic rock
Es Vedra is undoubtedly Ibiza’s most recognizable eye-catcher. The island is located about 2.5 kilometers off the coast near Cala d’Hort. From the beach you also have a beautiful view. Es Vedra is completely deserted except for a goat population. The island is about 400 meters high. On the mainland, you have several beautiful viewpoints of Es Vedra such as the old lighthouse and the colorfully decorated hippie cave. Near the cave is a small bed and there is a guest book where you can read back fun stories or write something yourself. This is one of the places where Ibiza still feels truly authentic. The plateau from where you get the best view is a popular spot for weddings and yoga sessions. A little way down (after a steep hike), if you are lucky you will find the hidden place Atlantis.

What makes Es Vedra special?
Es Vedra, according to many, has a strong magnetic field due to the presence of large amounts of metals! In fact, it is said to be the third most magnetic place in the world. Only the Bermuda Triangle and the North Pole would be stronger. As you sail around the island, you also notice that the gauges get confused. There are also rumors that Es Vedra is the point where UFOs often emerge. How seriously this can be taken remains to be seen, of course, but local people swear by it.
Many people also experience a positive energy and say that being after the rock has a healing effect on the mind.

Es Vedra myths and legends.
Traditionally, there are many stories to tell about Es Vedra. In Homer’s Odyssey, the rock is home to Sirens and sea nymphs whose songs lured boats to aim for the cliffs so that they then sank. In phoenician mythology, the princess Tanit was born here. Other sources tell us that Es Vedra is the tip of the sunken continent of Atlantis. By the way, across the street is a hidden place popularly called Atlantis.

The route to Es Vedra
We now start from the vantage point, the plateau. It not very easy to find and is not really signposted. Still, you should be able to get out. If you take the road from San Jose (can go either way), at some point you come to a point where you can no longer take the paved road. See photo 1. After this you take the dirt road that has quite a few bumps in it. So drive carefully. After a few hundred meters you come to some kind of parking lot. The right side takes you to the viewpoint. You can also take the road to the left where you end up at Atlantis. Here is also a big hippie circle. The idea is to walk through these and place an extra pebble somewhere on the pile.
