5 reasons to visit Ibiza at Christmas time

Spending Christmas time in Ibiza

Away from crowded beaches, traffic jams and high summer prices, we see a very different Ibiza during the winter, when the island shows its most authentic and natural appearance. But what makes Ibiza especially special during the party season?

Read more in our new article “5 reasons to visit Ibiza during Christmas.”

1) Christmas markets and local traditions in Ibiza

Traditional Christmas markets

When it comes to Christmas spirit and coziness, Ibiza is the place to be! Christmas in Spain is about being with the family and not about crowded malls and overconsumption. Hispanic families will spend their days strolling around the Christmas market, enjoying the winter coziness.

These Christmas markets open a few days before Christmas and you can find everything your Christmas heart desires – gifts, accessories, decorations, food, drinks and so on. It certainly won’t be difficult to find the perfect gift for your loved ones!

Your most fantastic Christmas dreams will also come true in Ibiza City (Eivissa), walking through streets filled with festive decorations. Temperatures in Ibiza can even reach 18 degrees in December, allowing you to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee or tea on a terrace in town.

The Christmas Hippie Market of Las Dalias

Starting in mid-December, San Carlos hosts a special Las Dalias Christmas Market, where you can visit the indoor area in addition to the regular outdoor market. And if you haven’t been there yet this year, the restaurant has been rigorously remodeled, making it the-place-to-be for all-year-round residents to work on their laptops with a snack or a drink.

The Christmas Market is open until Jan. 5 from Monday to Friday from 5 to 9 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 3 to 9 p.m. The only days the market is closed are Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

2) Partying and nightlife in Ibiza during Christmas time

Partying is and always will be just a tradition in Ibiza! Despite the low season, festivities continue to be organized and there is a wide range of great parties, events and activities for young and old.

Especially in Ibiza Town, Santa Eularia and San Antonio, several Christmas events take place in December. Of course, we will keep you informed of this. Ibiza really has a wide range to offer for the whole family!

Although the island will be much quieter than in the summer, there are still opportunities to go clubbing, especially on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. The Cafe Mambo Ibiza Classics Christmas Party is always a highlight, taking place this year on Dec. 14. Moreover, after a great Christmas Eve, Lío invites you to dance the night away with your loved ones at his “Nochebuena” party that takes place from 11: 59 p.m.

As the end of the year approaches, Ibiza is preparing for one of the biggest nights of the calendar, New Year’s Eve. During the summer time, it is clear that everyone on this island is very eager to dance the night away, so it is no surprise that Ibiza has some of the most legendary New Year’s Eve parties in Europe, perhaps even the world! The main parties take place in Heart Ibiza and in Lío. Moreover, you can dance the first day of the year at DC-10′s famous party “Circoloco,” which is an essential dance party for true clubbers.

4) Enjoy the best villas in Ibiza during the Christmas season

Villas come in all types and comforts to meet your expectations during the winter in Ibiza.

We’ve picked a few for you, perfect to kick off the festivities with your family and friends. Our “winter homes” often have heated floors that heat the entire house, heated pools and a fireplace. The following five villas are suitable for vacations during the off-season:

Our first recommendation is the luxury villa Can Nou, located near Cala Jondal. Located in a quiet spot at the top of a mountain, surrounded by nature with fascinating sunsets. There is even grass around the heated pool so children can play.

Villa Carolina is second on the list, located in Santa Gertrudis. Breathtaking sunrises and sunsets, with full views of the sea and mountains. Heated pool to 32 degrees, which includes a toddler area.

Can Pura Vida in Cala Carbo, is 25 minutes from Ibiza town. Relax and make unforgettable memories around the fireplace.

4. Can Truy

The fourth villa is Can Truy, in Can Thomas. Everything from the decoration to the furniture is well thought out how to spend a cozy winter vacation. There is a cozy fireplace, underfloor heating, lots of board games, a table tennis table, yoga mats, funny vintage toys and much more.

And last-but-not-least, our beautiful villa Casa Perdida, not far from the beach of Cala Llonga. Enjoy breathtaking views and cozy time with friends and family.

Thanks to its mild year-round climate, Ibiza remains the favorite destination to spend the winter. Combine this with our welcoming and warm villas in winter … what more could you want?

Eating oil balls at Sluiz (Dec. 31)

For several years now, this concept store in Santa Gertrudis has been organizing a fun gathering on New Year’s Eve, where locals meet and eat “oliebollen,” a traditional snack in the Netherlands on New Year’s Eve. These are dough balls with raisins from the fryer with powdered sugar on top, very tasty when paired with cava.

Las doce uvas (Dec. 31)

“Las doce uvas” (the 12 grapes) is an old Spanish tradition where 12 grapes are eaten starting at 10 to 12. To have 12 months of good luck and prosperity, it is necessary to eat 1 grape at the 12 last chimes. All enjoy this fun encounter with the locals in Ibiza Town or just at home with your loved ones in front of the television, where a special live program from Madrid counts along with the grape food.

New Year’s dive at Las Salinas beach (Jan. 1)

Ibiza has an “unofficial” New Year’s Eve tradition, on Las Salinas beach. A little before lunchtime, many locals and tourists flock to the beach to take a refreshing dip in the sea after a long night of partying. Usually there are 3 dives: 12:00, 13:00 and 14:00. The entire event is organized by Wine Bar Vino & Co. They will treat you to wine and cava, and it is customary for all visitors to bring some food. From oliebollen to pancakes, salads, cheese or olives.

Día de los Reyes Magos (Jan. 6)

The Christmas atmosphere is very strong in Ibiza and each village has a full program of events. But while in many countries celebrations end on New Year’s Day, in Spain they last until Jan. 6. This so-called “Dia de los Reyes Magos” (Three Kings Day) is actually the big holiday on the island. Traditionally, a large annual parade is held in Ibiza town, where the three kings hand out gifts and sweets to the public.
